YJ NORTH K - 5 PROGRAM
YJ NORTH YOUTH PROGRAM
-
Yellow Jackets North will be holding a youth program showcase on July 7 and 14 for rising 4th graders to rising 5th graders. All players are encouraged to participate.
Yellow Jackets North youth program provides student-athletes in grades 2-5 with the opportunity to play off-season lacrosse with low pressure. The goal of the youth program is to grow fundamental skills and teach the team game in an environment that is supportive and fun. We think a lacrosse-forward enviroment like this serves kids interests long-term as we strive to foster each player’s long-term love of lacrosse. Unlike other programs, we think a more gradual approach to youth developmental positions the athletes to grow a love of the game, build camaraderie, develop key lacrosse skills, and learn the team game. - The youth program is broken into a 4th/5th grade group, and a 2nd/3rd grade group. The groups practice separately. There are no cuts.
- The 4th/5th grade group focuses on team lacrosse (team offense, defense, riding, clearing) coupled with advance drills to grow a player's athleticism and stick skills. We expect players in this group to be able to catch and throw. The 2023-2024 season will begin with 4-6 fall sessions with at least one tournament and a local game. We will offer optional sessions of winter stick work at an indoor facility for an additional cost on. The core of the season is the intensive summer session that begins in early June 2023, and concludes in mid-July. During this time, the team will practice 12 times and have at least one travel team that participates in 3-4 tournaments with additional local games throughout the summer. All players are guaranteed at least 2 tournaments. While the summer season officially ends mid-July like other clubs, we will continue to have optional opportunities through the end of summer, including stick work sessions and local scrimmages. After the full year session, 5th graders will graduate to their own team, and be positioned to have a successful club career with YJN.
- The 2nd/3rd grade group focuses on basic skill development and teamwork. Players are not expected to be able to catch and throw. The 2023-2024 season will begin with 4-6 fall sessions and continue with 10 optional sessions of winter stick work at an indoor facility for an additional charge. The 2nd/3rd grade team will have regular inter-squad scrimmages to grow their game experience.
- We seek to schedule off-season work to accommodate fall and winter sports schedules.
- This provides players with a guaranteed spot in the fall, winter, and summer.
- Registration will be capped so we encourage players to sign up now.
